Ten FAQ's on VBS
1
- Why use VBS and not JavaScript?
As I said in the intro, it's better to know two scripting languages
than one.
2
- Why didn't Microsoft just use and adopt JavaScript?
Mmmm, I have some theories but I assume they just thought they could
do better.
3
- Is VBS as powerful as VB or VBA?
No. It is more limited since the user doesn't know exactly what a VBS
script will do when it is downloaded on their machine. To put it another
way, would you want to visit a site that had a scripting language so
powerful that it could copy (at night), then format your hardrive a
week after you visited their site? No, so the creators of VBS (like
JavaScript) slimmed the language abilities down.
4
- Can I create games in VBS?
Yes
5
- What is VBS best suited for?
Customized greetings, images and links. Client side processing.
6
- What programs do I need to create and run my own VBScripts?
Notepad and MSIE version 3 or higher.
7
- What books are helpful in starting to learn VBS?
Try O'Rielly's "Learning VBScript". That's been by main reference.
8
- I surf with Navigator. Can I get a third party add on to view VBS?
Yes. Go to the NCompass link below to install a plug in (like Flash)
to view VBS.
9
- What are some favorite uses of VBS?
Interactive Pages(time display), message boxes that give the user a
choice whether to view high or low graphic pages, online forms and tests.
10
- Is VBScript easy?
It depends on your programming experience. If your a VB programmer then
you'll pick it up a lot faster than a novice programmer
