A complete tutorial is available at Web Monkey.
On my example page, the baby scene is created in Flash 4
because I don't have Shockwave software called
Director.
(Rob, I need it)

Both Director and Flash are authoring software programs
for creating  key-framed
animation.

This research project is called
Shockwave but I feel I must include references to
Flash in here as they are
generally referred to in the same
sentence.

Basically, Director is the only program that can author Shockwave.

Shockwave used to refer to a collection of plug-ins including
Director.
The names Director and Shockwave
cover all the old names
.

In Director;  you create animation by placing a picture, shape, or what-ever else you wish to animate in various frames called keyframes.

Director shows these frames in the sequence you dictate to produce the animation. It sounds very simple and the concept is quite simple.

Director is mainly used for gaming
and other highly interactive online
applications.

Flash is used mainly for Web inter-faces and animation.

Sound can also be added to the frames.
