Other Fireworks Features
Macromedia has far more features than I'm able to cover in such
a small website. In fact, I have seen 800 page books that don't
cover all of it's features. The fact that it does contain so many
features shouldn't discourage you from trying it. Most features
build on one and other, so once you come upon something new, you
already have the primary skills necessary to accomplish your task.
Here are a few of the features I haven't mentioned:
Image Maps
If you've created image maps in other applications, you're going
to love the simplicity of creating them in Fireworks! Simply select
an object, right-click and select "insert hotspot", and
you're done. Later you can assign URLs to the hotspots and export
all the html and graphics that're required to make your image map
function.
library
If you have particlular items that you reuse often, simply drag
the item onto the library panel, and the next time you need it,
just drag it from the panel to the screen... this is especially
useful for buttons and rollovers.
History
If you find yourself repeating blocks of commands over and over
again, you can select those commands from the history panel, and
add them to the menu as a single command. This is very similar to
macros in other applications.
Customizability
You can customize where toolbars and panels appear on the screen,
or if they appear at all. If you like, you can drag tabs from one
panel to the any of the others, to minimize clutter on your screen
and have all your favorite tools close at hand..
Add-ins
Add-ins are JavaScripts that you can download from the Internet,
and use to add functionality to Fireworks. If you're adept at programming
in JavaScript, you can easily add features or modify existing scripts
to make Fireworks do just what you want it to!
Plug-ins
If you're used to using PhotoShop and have some plug-ins that you
just can't live without, relax... Fireworks will use those plug-ins
just fine. All you do is point the way to their locations and viola
- they're ready to use.
