Do you ever feel like you have to go out and buy some piece of software just to
accomplish some specific task. Say you just downloaded a zip file demo of some great new app you
wanted to try before buying it only to discover that Bill didn't see fit to include
a Zip file program with his operating system. So off you go down to the local computer
dealer and wind up buying some program for fifty bucks or more.
Well I got some good news and some bad news for you, first the good news. There is so much
free software on the Internet that you need never rush down to the store again. The bad news
is you wasted fifty bucks! Oh sure there's some things for which you'll need to buy some
software, but not much. Almost any task you can think of has a free software program
out there that can do it.
Their are basically three kinds of software, commercial, shareware and freeware. Commercial
software is usually made by a software Company and is sold in various retail outlets and on
the Internet. Shareware is made by much smaller Companies (Often one person) and is usually
only sold on the Internet or on special shareware CD's. Freeware is almost always made by one
person. Why make freeware you say? Well the programmer may wish to showcase his programming
skills in the hopes of getting work, he may give away a simpler version of his shareware program
hoping you'll like the program and think the extra features of the shareware version worth getting
or perhaps he just wishes to share his program and make the world a better place. Examples of
all of these can be found within these pages.
