The appeal of Visual Basic is that you can create simple user interfaces that interact with a user. An example of a user interface is a form with fields, buttons, and selection boxes. The advantage with Visual Basic is that it is found within many of Microsoft's other software products and/or is part of third party software. This means more developers are familiar with the code and may opt to program in VB. Another advantage is Internet development with Visual Basic. You can create applications using any combination of static HTML, DHTML and ActiveX documents. For example you can add Web-browsing functionality to your Visual Basic application. An example of this is Microsoft's HTML Help System. Although it requires Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.01 to be installed on your computer, the help system never launches the browser. Instead it launches an application that wraps the Web browser component in its own interface. This makes using your application easy for a user to navigate in, especially if they are familiar with how a Web browser works. |
