decisively to protect their home markets and expand into new markers.
Individual Canadians have quickly adopted the new
technology: 40% of
Canadians use the Internet - compared with 32% of Americans. The
problem is the paucity of sites. Many Canadian retailers have been slow to move.
The Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce now spends
about $250,000
per week on goods and services that are purchased online, such as office supplies.
(Eventually, it hopes to cut $40 million from its $1.3-Billion operating expenses.
