Cartooning and Drawing:  I have always loved to draw and now that I have access to a computer I am learning how to put that love of drawing to good use. I enjoy designing web pages and just sitting down and playing with the various graphics programs out there.
I have even developed my own cartoon character, his name is Norbert and he has a best friend named Chuck. Norbert and Chuck are in a comic strip called"Best Buds." They have the usual teen problems with how to talk to girls, and how to deal with your parents.

2D and 3D Computer Animation:    2D and 3D computer animation is great fun and is handy when you are designing web pages. There are many programs available to do this but they all have learning curves which can be frustrating at times. Just tough it out and have fun! Or if you're desperate, or stuck for time find a site that has animated gifs that you are free to use.

VRML-Virtual Reality Modelling Language:
This has to be one of the coolest things out on the internet. At first these virtual worlds are frustrating as one learns how to navigate through them but, they can be very useful and a lot of fun. I can see that this is going to be BIG! So, check out my page on VRML and find out what it's all about and what you need to navigate these neat 3D worlds.

Web Page Design:
Web Page Design is another thing that I find very interesting. If you want a web page for yourself or your company, check out my company page "SiteMagic" and e-mail me at the address below.

Medical Illustration:   Having worked in a hospital laboratory for the past 15 years, I have found a niche for doing medical illustrations for publication. Many of the Pathologists that I have worked with publish articles in medical journals on a regular basis and they have come to me for diagrams to put into these publications. I have done these diagrams by hand in the past and have recently started doing them on the computer (depending on what is required.)

Hiking:  On a personal note, I also love to hike. The west coast of Canada has some of the most spectacular mountains and getting out on the trail in the spring, summer and fall makes you realize how wonderful it is to be alive and healthy. I feel that everyone should try to get out and enjoy the world we live in as often as they can; it clears the mind and helps you stay in shape physically too. If you are interested in starting to hike check out Jim's homepage at: http://talltech.ml.org/personalpages/default.html There are some beginner hikes and some advanced hikes on this page and you can see a map and get a time frame as well.

Weightlifting:Weightlifting has recently (in the last 4 years) become another way I try to stay fit mentally and physically. If you are female and looking for some way of staying in shape and maintaining your bonemass through your elderly years, weightlifting is the ideal way to do this. Recent studies done by the Vancouver General Hospital's Employee Center found that just doing light weights 3 times a week significantly increased post-menopausal women's bonemass in a few short weeks. Try it, you may find that you like it. Remember, to get the benefits you don't have to lift heavy weights and become muscle bound.
