| Being able to
communicate through a desktop videoconference with both picture and sound is fundamental.
How you look and sound as well as how people at the other end see you have a great
influence on how successful the conference will be. To ensure an effective
videoconference, good presentation elements are a must. Things like composition, lighting,
audio, camera angle, scenery, wardrobe, and jewelry should be carefully considered.
- Composition of your scene
|
 |
Cameras that are used with DVC are small, inexpensive and produce a good
picture. But to ensure that you look your best, simple steps have to be considered:
- Close up shots are most effective.
You should be place in the center of the picture, framed from the chest (at the bottom
of the picture frame) to the top of the head (near the top of the picture frame)
- Eye contact is essential:
You should concentrate on looking right into the camera, especially at the beginning
and the end of a videoconference, and when making a point. To avoid eye movement away from
the camera, it is a good idea to utilize a note card taped next to the camera for
important notes, i.e. opening script and closing script.
- Lighting
|
 |
This element plays a vital role in ensuring a good quality picture.
Because cameras react to light, poor lighting will result in a poor washed-out picture.
The placement of the lights has a profound effect on the picture that is being seen,
- If placed to high, it will produce dark shadow around the eyes.
- If placed to low it will give you the appearance of some one out of a sci-fi picture.
Because sunlight and artificial lights do not mix, you should avoid having windows or
sunlight on you or in the background, as this will result in a reddish or bluish skin
tint.
- Audio
|
 |
Most people are not born with professional sounding voice; In fact, it
takes a lot of training and practice.
- Diction and pronunciation are especially important.
- Have in mind that the closer you are to the microphone, the better the sound will be.
- Rehearse how you will answer a video call, end a video call, and how to respond to
typical situations in the videoconference.
- Scenery
|
 |
You should choose your background carefully, a neutral color works best.
Avoid large windows, large whiteboards or blackboards behind you, as this will affect
lighting.
- Wardrobe
|
 |
Unfortunately you will be judged (consciously or unconsciously) by the way you are
viewed, and wardrobe has an enourmose effect on the way you look.
- You should experiment with colors and styles on camera, under the lighting that will be
used.
- Matte warm colors work best on camera.
- Keep jewelry to a minimum, as too shiny, reflective jewelry cause lighting problem for
the camera.
- Makeup
|
  |
For both men and women makeup should be used for the benefit of the
camera and lighting. Matte colors work best.
To enhance or to correct, a little makeup will provide a clean-cut and healthier look
for the camera.
