HIPPIE is an HTML editor program developed by Trout Software which is a part of the parent company Trout Systems. Trout Systems is known to develop and market software products for the interactive industry. The company was established by Alain Benzaken in 1993 and is based out of New York, USA.

Mr. Benzaken was the sole developer of Hippie. Over the past 6 years, HIPPIE has won numerous awards and considered one of the top HTML editors for the Internet in today's competitive market.

A survey conducted by Rutgers College in the USA concluded that HIPPIE 98 is "a powerful code-based editor with some WYSIWYG functionality. It has real-time previewing using Internet Explorer's page-display module. It has well-designed page wizards that show you what your backgrounds, tables, and frames will look like before you insert the code in your file. A right-click on almost any tag brings up a dialog box for modifying the tag. A project feature keeps track of multiple pages, and the flexible, built-in FTP client optionally uploads only changed files."
