Objectives

You will see how FTP can be used within a web browser such as Netscape. You will 
see in this lesson how using a more sophisticated FTP client will also allow you a broader 
range of activities. This includes transferring binary and text files to and from your 
local computer and the FTP server, transferring multiple files at once, and allowing 
the customization of where the files are placed.

The software that will be used with this lesson is WS_FTP95. 
There are other packages available such as CuteFTP, FTPExplorer, etc. 

• Learn what FTP is an how it works
• Access an FTP server and download a program
• Learn the difference between freeware and shareware
• Locate and download freeware and shareware programs
• Use a Web browser to find and locate data
• Identify several important sources of both programs and data
• Decompress a downloaded file (overview)
• Check your disk for computer viruses (overview)
