Assignment: Web Design Team
Due: March 31/2000
Marks: 15 marks
You will be broken into groups and will be forming a web
design team.
You have been referred to Geoff, the production manager for
a local manufacturer of routing tables. He has told you that many of his
competitors now have Web sites and he would like one too. Geoff has no idea what
the advantages of having a Web site may be, only that the competition has them.
He wants his site as soon as possible but will wait no longer than 6 weeks.
Assume that you are working on a 7 week cycle and that the first week involves
getting the contract.
STEP 1:
Draft up a list of 10 reasons why he should have a web site so you can sell him on the idea.
Produce a list of possible pages that he may want to include on his site. You can get ideas from his competitors (see below).
Create a rough proposal that illustrates what pages he may want to include on his site.

STEP 2:
Identify tasks involved. You can get some ideas from the PowerPoint slides.
Identify members on team. What are their positions. (i.e. developer, writer, designer, project manager, etc.)
Assign time (hours or man days) for each task.
Identify dependencies between tasks (i.e. one needs to come before the other). Can any be done at the same time?
Plot tasks (does it go over?)
Revise / scope project / allocate more resources (people).
STEP 3:
You can use his competitors for ideas, graphics
(placeholders), etc.
Produce a design for the first page (home), an order page, and a product page. (on paper)
Produce a design for frames and no frames. (on paper)
Produce a template (HTML) for the first page and another page for his site.
