For the past four years a few friends and I have been following the Highland games in the lower Fraser Valley. Holding the MacDougall banner is one of my closest friends, Heather. The MacDougall clan are truly a wonderful people and have accepted me as one of their own on many many occasions. |
| You know what a Scotsman wears under his kilt don't you? Gillie broughs and argyle socks. When asked, and I am asked repeatedly, why I go to the highland festivals, I tell folks that 'I like to watch burly Scotsmen wearing skirts throw around telephone poles, and throttle cats.' It is an answer that usually serves to tick everyone off. |

In all honesty it is the bagpipes that have me traipsing over hells half acre. 200 pipers and drummers playing Amazing Grace at mass bands moves me to my very soul. Lord help anyone in my vacinity that chatters through it! |
| In the past four years I have been fortunate to see one of the local bands make it to the highest level of piping in the world. Simon Fraser Universtiy pipeband has won the world compititions in Scotland two years consecutively. On the local circuit Abbotsford Police Band give them the run for their money! | |
