Reiki
Reiki is a system of natural healing which addresses body, mind and spirit. The word
Reiki comes from two Japanese words, "REI" meaning the universal life force
energy or intelligent spiritual power."KEI" meaning the vital life force energy
similar to the "CHI" of Chinese acupuncture. It is Bioplasmic Energy to Russian
Researchers, Light to Christians, Astral Light to Jews, and Prana to Hindus.
Reiki utilizes a laying-on of hands technique which is thought to have originated in Tibet thousands of years ago. It was rediscovered in the 19th century by Dr. Mikao Usui of Japan. Dr. Usui spent many years traveling, meditating, researching and studying the sacred literature of Japan, China, India and Tibet, in order to discover how Buddha and Christ healed the sick. At the end of his quest, the complete system of Reiki was reveled to him during a mystical experience on the holy mountain of Kiri-Yama. He spent the rest of his life practicing and teaching this method of natural healing, which involved attunement to Reiki energy and the laying-on of hands.
Any restrictions in the flow of life force energy causes illness and fatigue. The Reiki practitioner acts as a channel through which Reiki energy is drawn by the recipient This increases the recipient's own capacity for self- healing of chronic and acute illness alike. It helps to alleviate stress and to facilitate emotional healing as well as healing physically traumatized areas.
Reiki can not only effect changes in the chemical structure of the body, it is a complete system of holistic healing and personal development which aids in the release, activation and transformation of the energy of the physical and etheric bodies.
Reiki is very versatile and can be used to heal or improve and human condition or difficulty. It is an amazing energy that cone from the highest spiritual source. It will heal the cause of a problem on whatever level it may exist-physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual. Reiki is not taught in the way that other healing techniques are taught. The ability to channel Reiki energy is simply transferred to the student by the Reiki master during an attunement process. Once a person is attuned, he of she need only have the intention to practice Reiki on him/herself or others and the Reiki energy is immediately drawn through.
A growing number of Health Professionals incorporate Reiki effectively into their healing practices. While Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion, it has no dogma, and there is nothing that must be believed in order to benefit from or practice, Reiki. Reiki is compatible with all religious paths and faiths.
Reiki Lineage
Dr. Usui practiced and taught Reiki throughout Japan until his passing around 1930. Before this time. He gave the master attunement to sixteen teachers, one of whom was Dr. Chujiro Hayashi. Dr. Hayashi was a retired naval officer , who further developed Dr. Usui's system of healing to include standard hand positions and three degrees of initiations.
He opened a Reiki clinic in Tokyo, and kept records of the treatments given. He sensed that a great war was coming and that most of the men would be called to war. Up until this time, only men had been initiated into Reiki. In order to preserve Reiki, he initiated two women: his wife and Hawayo Takata.
Hawayo Takata was born in 1900 on the island of Kauai, Hawaii. She was widowed in 1930, and left with two children to support, at the age of thirty-four. After five years of working excessively hard to support her children, she developed severe abdominal pain, a lung condition, and had a nervous breakdown.
Her parents had moved to Japan and, just around the time of her illness, her sister died. Takata traveled to Japan to break the news to her parents, at the same time intending to seek treatment for her health in Japan. She entered a hospital where she was diagnosed as having a tumor, gallstones, and appendicitis. She needed an operation but, while she was on the operating table, she heard a voice telling her that the operation was not necessary. When the doctor arrived, she asked if her knew of any other way that her problems could be helped. The doctor knew of Dr. Hayashi's Reiki Clinic and told her about it.
She checked out of the hospital and began treatments at the Reiki Clinic. She received daily treatments over a period of four months and was completely healed. So impressed was she that she wanted to learn Reiki. She begged to be initiated and, as Dr. Hayashi wanted to initiate another woman besides his wife, he initiated her in the First Degree in the spring of 1936. She worked with Dr. Hayashi for one year before receiving the Second Degree. Mrs. Takata returned to Hawaii in 1937. She was followed by Dr. Hayashi and his daughter, who came to help establish Reiki in Hawaii. In 1938, he initiated Mrs.Takata as a Reiki Master. She was the thirteenth and last Reiki Master that he initiated.
