I was born in Vancouver BC, on march 31, 1972. I have strong interests in computing,
computer graphics, security issues and any indoor sports. :)
Some programming languages I have had experience in are PASCAL, BASIC,
C++ and JAVA. I have had extensive experience with DOS and windows.
Every upgrade my computer gets is done lovingly by no-one but myself, and currently
I am running a pentuim 2-300 with 128megs of ram, 10 gigs of space, and a viper 550 3d
accelerator. Oh... and I have a cablemodem now. <phew>
And now, a little about me....
I first started my computing interest with a venerable old TI-99/4a and
quickly begged my parents to buy the upgrade cartridge so that I could have 'extended
basic;, which allowed me to program much easier. (It also boosted the ram to a mighty
64k!) I was very young, but was fascinated with how easily I could (sometimes) tell
the computer what I wanted it to do. Of course, it seldom worked quite the way I
wanted, and the simple fact that saving things to cassette tape was a tedious process led
to my disinterest in it.
After a time, I managed to convince my mom that taking computer lessons
was a great idea. She enrolled me in DOS 3.3 courses, and some BASIC programming
too. I was the youngest in the class by far, and I can remember feeling a little out
of place with all the adults there. These courses whetted my appetite, but without
an x86 processor at home, I could use little of my knowledge, and I slowly forgot much of
what I had learned.
Finally, in 5th grade, our elementary school got two brand new
apple][ E's! I was ecstatic, although the commands were slightly different from what
I had been exposed to. Sadly, it was basically a games machine, due to the lack of
software that was provided, unless you count what my schoolmates brought in and copied.
However, I still fooled around with the boot loader code and managed to hack my
first few passwords on it. :)
It would be many years later before I got back into computing... Lack of a computer
at home was a fact of life, so I simply found other ways to spend my time. Then, I had an
offer to buy a 386-33 on a 'employee purchase plan' for $2500.00, and I went for it.
That was over 8 years ago... and I have been busy learning ever since.
